Set up a TradingView webhook for cTrader

Choose your alert, paste your personal webhook URL and add the matching message. This guide takes you from those three fields to a checked demo entry and exit.

1. Get your personal webhook URL

In NRUNO, create or open your Connector in the dashboard and copy its personal TradingView webhook URL. Keep that URL private: it identifies the destination for your instructions. It is not the public NRUNO homepage, a dashboard page or a URL copied from someone else's screenshot.

Enable two-factor authentication in TradingView and check that webhook alerts are available on your account. TradingView accepts webhook ports 80 and 443; use the HTTPS URL supplied by your Connector.

2. Pick the right alert condition

Indicator: select its exposed buy, sell or exit condition. If the indicator does not expose the condition you need, entering a message will not create that condition.

Strategy: select the strategy's order-fill events if its orders supply the intended message through alert_message. If it uses alert() instead, the code supplies those messages. Avoid selecting both event types unless your script deliberately needs both.

Set the symbol, timeframe and script inputs first. TradingView stores a snapshot for a running script alert. Recreate that alert after changing code or inputs that should affect it.

3. Add the URL and the message

In the alert settings, enable Webhook URL and paste your personal URL. The alert's Message field contains the instruction. These are separate fields.

Indicator buy example for NRUNO

For an indicator's buy condition, this example asks NRUNO to use the cBot's local sizing settings:

{"tvAlertTime":"{{timenow}}","symbol":"{{ticker}}","signal":"LONG","sizing":"LOCAL","source":"tradingview","strategy":"Indicator Alert","timeframe":"{{interval}}"}

Use SHORT for a sell condition. {{ticker}} must resolve to a symbol that matches your cTrader setup. If TradingView calls an instrument JPN225 but your broker uses another name, use the broker's exact symbol instead. sizing: LOCAL uses configured sizing; it does not choose an appropriate trade size for you.

Strategy order-fill example

{"tvAlertTime":"{{timenow}}","payload":{{strategy.order.alert_message}}}

This wrapper works only when the order that triggers it supplies a valid JSON object through alert_message. Without that inner message, the payload can be empty. Do not add quotation marks around the strategy placeholder when it represents a JSON object.

Compare the three Pine alert mechanisms before choosing a message for a different script.

4. Give exits their own instruction

For an indicator with a separate exit condition, create an exit alert using the same personal webhook URL:

{"tvAlertTime":"{{timenow}}","symbol":"{{ticker}}","action":"exit","side":"all","source":"tradingview","timeframe":"{{interval}}"}

side: all requests closure on both sides for the specified symbol within the cBot's managed scope. It is not a request to liquidate every position on your account. Verify which positions your cBot manages and check the actual result on demo.

A buy alert does not automatically create an exit alert. You can instead configure cBot stop-loss, take-profit or trailing management, but test which rule closes the position first.

5. Check delivery and execution separately

  1. Wait for the intended condition on a demo setup and find the alert in TradingView's log.
  2. Read its webhook delivery status. An alert name alone does not prove delivery.
  3. Find the event in NRUNO and read any validation error.
  4. Check the cBot connection, then confirm the position in cTrader.
  5. Trigger the intended exit condition and confirm the position was closed.

NRUNO Paper mode checks routing without placing a real broker order. Use a cTrader demo account when you need to test broker execution and exits. Open the setup checklist for the remaining configuration checks.

If the first alert fails

For 400, compare the emitted message with the receiver's required format. For an empty strategy payload, check every order call that can trigger the alert. For a timeout or 5xx, investigate the receiver before changing trade logic. The webhook status guide provides the next step for each case.
